Homework Guidance

Students at The Cornerstone Academy are encouraged to become independent learners. We believe homework supports this and therefore it is our policy to set homework. The purpose of homework is to embed, develop and enrich learning that has taken place during lesson. Students will be issued knowledge organiser booklets every half term. These booklets contain all the key knowledge that students need to make the best progress in that subject. Students self-quiz themselves on this knowledge as part of their homework.

  • In years 7 and 8, each subject area will set work that students should spend approximately 30 minutes on. Throughout the course of the week this leads to around 1 hour per night. Students will also have 30 minutes of reading and will answer questions based on this reading.
  • In year 9, each subject area will set work that students should spend approximately 45 mins on to complete. Throughout the course of the week this leads to around 90 minutes per evening completing homework. Students will also have 30 minutes of reading and will answer questions based on this reading.
  • At Key Stage 4, each subject area will set a piece of work that the students should spend between 60 and 90 minutes completing. Students in Year 10 will also have 30 minutes of reading and will answer questions based on this reading.
