The Physical Education Department at Cornerstone Academy is an enthusiastic, committed and forward thinking team.

The department currently consists of 5 members of staff. One of which was previously School Games Organiser for the Poole Region. The team are strongly committed to raising the standards of teaching and learning across the PE Curriculum whilst offering a variety of opportunities to the students at Cornerstone.

The department has access to a range of onsite facilities, which are constantly improving.

These include:

  •  A 4 Court Sports Hall
  • 8 Floodlit Tennis Courts
  • 4 Floodlit Netball Courts
  • Gymnasium
  • Floodlit 3G Pitch
  • PE Specific Classroom with interactive whiteboard.

The Department is well supported by other staff members and offers a superb extra curricular programme where participation rates continue to increase. We strongly feel that extra curricular sport makes a valuable contribution to the ethos of the school and makes a significant impact on the social, moral and physical education of young people.

Department Aim

It is the aim of the PE Department to deliver High Quality PE, alongside ensuring all students at Cornerstone are fit, healthy, hygienic and happy. We strongly believe in a 'sport for all' approach where each individual will understand the importance of regular exercise and leave with raised self-esteem and a high feeling of self worth.

In the curriculum area, we aim to create an effective and positive learning environment where students feel comfortable in approaching new and challenging concepts within a supportive environment. This allows all students, whatever their sporting ability, to be challenged according to their level and to in turn develop their own self-confidence.

Student KS4 Options - OCR Sports Studies

The Cambridge National in Sport Studies enables students to develop and apply knowledge of sports-related activities, with a particular focus on officiating. They explore contemporary issues in sport, different ways of being involved in the sports industry, and the impact of sport on wider society. This KS4 option is the equivalent to one GCSE.
