You play a vital role in the Careers Education of every student you teach here at The Cornerstone Academy. As a school we recognise the significance of ensuring we have excellent Careers Education in our classrooms, to guarantee our students have a deeper understanding of the world of work.
Here at Cornerstone, we have a whole school approach to Careers Education, Information, Advice & Guidance. Therefore, it is important that as a member of staff, you feel you are equipped with the best knowledge and tools to support our students with their career ambitions.
There are lots of things you can do to make sure you feel confident discussing your students Post 16 options with them.
Firstly, ask your students what their plans are. Some students will have a very clear idea of how their career will pan out over the next thirty years, others may not have given it one thought.
Secondly, ask them what their back up plan is. The most important thing we can teach them about careers is how to handle change.
Finally, once a term includes a Careers section into your lessons. This can be a visitor talking about their job and links with your subject, a discrete lesson on careers linked to your subject or even a worksheet.
In order to ensure you feel confident to support our students, the Careers Lead can provide:
- Access to up-to-date information on post 16
- Subject specific advice and resources
- Referral system for staff to refer students for 1:1 career guidance
- Opportunities to attend subject related careers events
- Support to build CEIAG into your classroom
